ACRYLIC PAINTING with Brian Simons
The workshops consist of 2 full days from 9am to 4pm with and hour break at noon. They currently are conducted in Penticton, Victoria and Vancouver. The current cost of registration is $250 + HST (12%tax) and must be paid prior to the workshop.
Workshops have been conducted in remote locations such as the Gulf Islands, Metchosin, Quadra Island, Prince George, Camrose Alberta , Boone North Carolina and can be arranged in other locations based on the demand. Since starting these workshops approx. 12 years ago, literally hundreds of people (60% beginners) have been through this 7-Step acrylic painting program, many of whom now are showing in galleries and juried shows on the west coast.
During those 12 years, I have culled out what I thought didn't work and reinforced principles and techniques that did. The workshop reflects much of what I have learned in my own painting career over the last 30 years. The primary focus of the workshop is placed on helping the painter to get out of the way and allow the painting to happen. It requires some courage and a lot of trust on the part of the participants, but the results have been truly amazing!
In 2004, I have published a book called "7-STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL PAINTING" based on these workshops and have made it available in 3 formats on this site.
If you would like to get beyond the barriers and blocks that hold you back from your desire to paint, this is the program for you! If you want a fun, unforgettable, inspiring weekend leaving you with the tools to successfully paint on your own, then you should consider this workshop!
NO PREVIOUS DRAWING OR PAINTING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
FOR BOTH EXPERT AND BEGINNER ALIKE!
Below are a few extracts from emails received from participants:
"...one of the most valuable courses I have taken in my lifetime of 66 years!....like re-discovering the mud-puddle!"- Walter Reidel (participant)
"No more measurements and grid lines. No more worrying about fine detail. Your course has truly liberated me and I'll be forever grateful. I'm a retired surgeon and must have carried the overly meticulous surgical approach to my initial efforts which worked but left me with backache, headache and the feeling that I was mediocre. Now I'm having fun and realize it is just paint on canvas and I'm the only one it has to please! Thanks again." -Michael R. Smith, MD(participant)
"Hi Brian, Sorry, I was out of town and unable to attend your open house. I must tell you however, to expect many workshop participants in the next year.I have been "selling" the workshops to everyone I come in contact with... through my enthusiasm alone. One friend wants to organize a group on Salt Spring, Georgia's sister wants to gather a group and go to Merritt, and many others have been visiting your website, two friends say they are giving your workshop to a spouse for a birthday gift. All I can say is I have been thrilled with the two workshops I attended and Jude and I have been painting at my place every Sunday afternoon. One day we had a parade of visitors come through to visit our "studio".My husband served them champagne and we had a bit of a "Paint In". What have you created?"-Ingrid Fawcett (participant)
HOW LITTLE IS ASKED OF YOU!
To do this course, you are NOT asked to create, invent, imagine, conjure up, fabricate or know anything. You are simply asked to DO the course step by step, as honestly and as faithfully as you can without skipping or combining steps, or adding anything to the instructions for each. Preliminary sketches, measuring, and drawing are NOT asked of you. If you are an experienced painter, you ARE asked to suspend all that you know or have learned in the past and just DO the course, without editing, questioning, or culling out what you don't like. Results are dependent on doing the simple steps in sequence and NOTHING ELSE!
